World Champion Jenson Button calmly steered his way through the chaos of a wet Chinese Gran Prix for his second win of the season on Sunday, April 18, 2010, leading Lewis Hamilton to a Mc Laren one-two. The 30 year old Briton who took the lead in the overall standings after celebrating his second win of the season and ninth of his careerfor him, its his best victory. He says that it was very tough conditions and the great thing was their pace was good. Hamilton, who carved his way through the field from 12th on lap four to finish 1.530 seconds behind his compatriot in the first British one-two since 1999, may yet pay the penalty for his aggressive drive after a post-race probe into a pit lane clash with Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. He fought his way through and did a tremendous job and it was great for the team.
Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel were reprimanded by stewards for dangerous driving in the pit lane at the Chinese Grand Prix on April 20, 2010. Mc Laren’s Hamilton overtook Vettel as they entered for a tyre change and was then released, his car skidding sideways, at the same time as his Red Bull rival.
Vettel was slightly ahead and held position with Hamilton alongside close to mechanics and equipment before finally running out of space.
The 2008 world champion passed the German driver later in the race, finishing second behind team mate Jenson Button. Vettel took sixth place. Hamilton down played the clash, saying that a blue advertisement painted on the ground and running down the pit lane was its primary cause.
The Mc Laren guys waited sometime to let the cars go past and released me at what I thought was a good time. And there is a big long blue line, which is all painted and just so slippery, the Briton said.
“As soon as I hit that, I had some major wheel spin and lost a bit of traction and unfortunately that let Vettel go inside of me, but otherwise it was good racing.”
“I don’t know why he was keen to touch me. I thought, hopefully, I don’t suffer a puncture after that, the Red Bull driver said.
